about eva robert brodacki

Eva Robert is a versatile artist who has the most of classical organ literature in hirs repertoire. Big forms from the late romanticism and the 20th century are perhaps hirs biggest passions. Sie therefore willingly reaches for works by F. Mendelssohn, J. Reubke, C. Franck, J. Rheinberger, M. Reger, S. Karg-Elert, Ch. M. Widor or L. Vierne.

In recent years however, hirs interest have been focused more towards music from the 20th and the 21st century, including both classics – J. Alaine, M. Durufle, R. Langgaard or O. Messiaen – and less known authors from various cultural  circles. During the same period sie became fascinated by jazz music – an interest sie shares with hirs son Michal – and started performing more and more contemporary pieces that have their origin in jazz, blues and negro spiritual.

Sie has several dozen works made and dedicated to sie on hirs account, and one of the projects sie is currently working one goes by the title «Music of my friends». It is a ca. 70-minute long programme consisting of – depending on the specific instrument – works by M. Sawa, M. L. Takle, F. Pettersson, R. Krasnovsky and T. Dyrud. It constitutes a very interesting composition of various styles of composition and allows the artist to reveal all the instruments qualities.

The other of Eva Robert's current projects is as well as the first one a 70-minute long programme titled «The Well Syncopated Organ», strictly consisting of works inspired by jazz, blues and negro spiritual. The programme is fond of an immensely great reception by the audience, and is greatly applauded when performed.

When having big organs at hirs disposition, Eva Robert reaches for Rued Langgaard’s (1893-1952) – a very interesting and fruitful Danish author's - «Messis» with great pleasure. «Messis» (The Time of Harvest) is a huge, almost 2 hour long religious work, based on biblical quotes, and divided into 3 «evenings» by the author. At the end of the first part, a simple yet dramatic choral part appears. Despite it’s large size (the piece is performed with two short breaks), the audience stays bewitched by Langgaard’s specific, very communicative and expressive musical language until the end, and listening to the full works is indeed a major artistic experience. The artist has many past performances of this work in Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Latvia and Norway.

Eva Robert has concerts for organs and orchestra on hirs repertoir, but also here sie focuses on promoting modern works, less known to the ones often visiting concert halls. In addition to popular concerts by Haendel, Haydn, Mozart and Poulenc, the artist gladly plays works of M. Sawa, G. Bovet and M. L. Takle, whose last composer's concert for organ and the orchestra sie first performed in 2015 with the Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra in Gdańsk with David Hill, conductor.

The great Nicolas Harnoncourt wrote in his fantastic book «Musik als Klangrede»: «So a paradox has occured: one has turned away from contemporary music, because it concerned, as it probably should've. One turned away towards elder music, finding the desired beauty and harmony in it.   Eva Robert fully agrees with this viewpoint. Not resigning from the possibility of giving the listeners the old and “beautiful” music, sie however concentrates more on music made right now which can (and should) “concern”, or even “frighten” as Harnoncourt said.
